FALL 2017

Walking Fish is entering its ninth year of delivering seafood to the Triangle and we are looking forward to another exciting round of community, seafood and innovation. A community supported fishery (CSF) is based on the community supported agriculture (CSA) model. A CSF involves pre-payment by consumers for a ’share’ of fresh, locally harvested seafood (i.e., a set amount of seafood generally picked up by the consumer on a weekly or bi-weekly basis). Just as CSA’s can encourage sustainable and profitable farming practices, CSF’s have the potential to do the same for fishing. This initiative takes root in the belief that people – whether they be coastal fishermen or local consumers – play an important role in creating solutions to the social, economic, and environmental challenges we face. The goals of this project are simple: to foster economic opportunities, to cultivate healthy communities and to encourage environmental stewardship.

This season we have added a new location to the Raleigh area. We will be at the Standard Foods parking lot (205 E. Franklin Street, Raleigh) from 3:00 – 3:45 p.m. and the Holy Lutheran Church parking lot (corner of Clark and Brooks Ave., Raleigh) from 4:00 – 4:30.

Please help us spread the word about the Fall 2017 CSF! We currently have seafood shares still available. The season begins in Raleigh on Tuesday, September 19th and Durham deliveries start up on Thursday, September 21st. We have a variety of different shares to choose from so be sure to check out our website to see what we have to offer.

Spring 2017

We are excited about the Spring CSF and are looking forward to the season. We have had a mild winter, with only a few days of weather below freezing. There should be an abundance of fresh, local seafood for our deliveries to Raleigh and Durham. Potential species will include soft shell crabs, flounder, mahi mahi, king mackerel, clams, bluefish and snapper. The commercial fishermen in Carteret County are eager to supply us with delicious seafood from our area waters.

It is hard to believe this will be our 8th Spring CSF. We are looking forward to seeing former members as well as the new! Please help us spread the word by letting friends, family and neighbors know about the Walking Fish CSF.
